CNN’S Christiane Amanpour Diagnosed With Ovarian Cancer.

CNN Journalist Christiane Amanpour announced that she has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer on Monday.

The veteran presenter took to Twitter to share a clip of the announcement, saying she decided to make public disclosure of her health condition in the interest of transparency. She further disclosed that she will undergo chemotherapy for some months as she continues to battle the disease.

“…Like millions of women around the world, I’ve been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, I’ve had successful major surgery to remove it and I’m now undergoing several months of chemotherapy for the very best possible long-term prognosis and I’m confident,” Ms Amanpour said.

Ms Amanpour who have been absent from her hosting duties at CNN for the past four weeks as a result of the diagnosis said that ovarian cancer is a common disease affecting millions of women around the world.

Laying emphasis on the need for early diagnosis, Ms Amanpour urged women around the world to always pay attention to their body to ensure that your legitimate medical concerns are not dismissed or diminished.’

She also advised the female folks to constantly educate themselves on the disease, and get all regular screening and scans that they can.

Nigeria’s Chief Of Army Staff Killed In Plane Crash.

The Nigerian Chief of Army Staff Ibrahim Attahiru has been killed in a plane crash in Kaduna, military sources have revealed.

Mr Attahiru was appointed chief of army staff on January 26, succeeding Tukur Buratai. He was 54.

Mr Attahiru was killed alongside other military chiefs who were on the same flight, sources said. The presidency has already been briefed about the development.

The Nigerian Army have confirmed the incident saying there were 11 casualties on board including the COAS.

The plane was the third military jet operated by the Nigerian Air Force to crash this year.

BREAKING: Chadian President Idris Deby Murdered By Rebels.

President Idriss Deby of Chad has died after suffering injuries on the frontline against rebels, an army spokesman said on Tuesday according to the AFP.

Mr Deby, 68, was on Monday declared winner of a presidential election held on April 11.

The Chad president “has just breathed his last defending the sovereign nation on the battlefield” spokesman General Azem Bermandoa Agouna said in a televised statement.

The army had previously announced that insurgents marching towards the capital, N’Djamena, were beating back over the weekend.

Mr Deby assumed power in 1990 on the back of a rebelion 1990. He had since won six elections.

No Survivors As Military Aircraft Crashes in Abuja.

A military Aeroplane King Air 350 has just crashed short of the Abuja runway after reporting engine failure enroute Minna according to Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika.

Sirika Sunday wrote, “It appears to be fatal”.

The Minister however urged Nigerians to be calm.

Donald Trump Grants Lil Wayne Presidential Pardon.

It was confirmed on the 19th of January that Donald Trump pardoned a number of American music stars, just a day before finally leaving office.

Among those he decided to pardon in the hip hop industry, it is now being reported that he’s also pardoned rap’s very own Lil Wayne.

Back at the end of October 2020, Weezy F Baby was the target of a lot of social media backlash when he endorsed Trump for the presidential election against now President-elect Joe Biden.

Back in November, the rapper was charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition as a felon after an anonymous tip was made, which led Miami cops and federal agents to search a jet of his. There, authorities found a gun, cocaine, ecstasy, marijuana, heroin, pain killers, prescription-strength cough syrup along with $26,000 in cash.

Wayne would plead guilty to the gun charges last month. The “Glory” rapper faced at least 10 years in prison if convicted.

JUST IN: Donald Trump Impeached Again.

United States President Donald Trump was on Wednesday impeached for a second time by the House of Representatives led by Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

Mr. Trump was accused of inciting the violence that broke out at the U.S. Capitol on January 6.

Mr. Trump denied the allegations of incitement, and there was no evidence he incited the attempt to disrupt certification of President-elect Joe Biden by the Electoral College. Mr. Trump was seen in a video rallying his supporters to be peaceful and patriotic before the incident at the Capitol.

Nonetheless, Ms. Pelosi proceeded with other members of the Democratic Party and 10 other Republican members of the House to impeach Mr. Trump. It was the second of such since 219 when Mr. Trump was impeached over allegations of trying to bribe Ukrainian officials to go after his political oppponents.

Mr. Trump has now become the first American president to be impeached twice by the House. But the Senate has said it will not be voting to convict Mr. Trump before he leaves office on January 20, merely six days away.

Military Court Demotes Major-General Adeniyi Over Viral Boko Haram Video.

Major-General Olusegun Adeniyi has been convicted by a military court in Abuja, newsmen learned on Monday.

Mr. Adeniyi was found guilty of violating military social media guidelines and it was ordered that he be demoted by at least three years by the military tribunal that heard the matter in Abuja.

Tokunbo Obanla, a Nigerian Army private who was arraigned alongside the military chief, was also found guilty and sentenced to 28 days of hard labour. Both convictions would take effect subject to confirmation by the military board.

The verdict came about seven months after a video went viral on social media of Mr. Adeniyi complaining about a dearth of serviceable military equipment to combat Boko Haram insurgents in the northeast.

The major-general was summarily suspended from work by the Nigerian Army, which subsequently filed charges of military social media guideline violations against him.

The major-general strongly denied wrongdoings, with his lawyers saying today’s tribunal judgement would be appealed to higher military authorities.

Breaking: FIFA suspends CAF President, Ahmad Ahmad.

The head of African football Ahmad Ahmad has been suspended by FIFA for five years for corruption, the global governing body announced Monday.

Ahmad, from Madagascar, has been president of the African Football Confederation (CAF) since March 2017 and was standing for re-election when FIFA banned him for “governance issues”.

In their statement, FIFA said that Ahmad had “breached his duty of loyalty, offered gifts and other benefits, mismanaged funds and abused his position as the CAF President”.

Ahmad has also been fined 200,000 Swiss francs ($220,000) by FIFA for the misdeeds, which related to “the organisation and financing of an Umrah pilgrimage to Mecca” and his involvement in CAF’s dealings with a sports equipment company.

Kidnapped APC Chairman Found Dead.

The kidnapped chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State, Phillip Shekwo, has been found dead.

This was confirmed to Channels Television by the Commissioner of Police, Bola Longe.

Longe said the body of Shekwo was found not far from his house in Lafia, Nasarawa State capital, and has been evacuated to the Dalhatu Araf specialist hospital.

Shekwo was earlier kidnapped in the late hours of Saturday at his residence in Lafia.

Scribbles Urban had earlier reported that the State Commissioner of Police, Dele Longe, confirmed the incident to journalists in Lafia, the state capital.

He said Mr Shekwo was abducted from his Bukan Sidi residence around 11 p.m. on Saturday.

He also said he has deployed the police to comb the various forests and flashpoints in the state to ensure his release.

Kidnappings of high profiled individuals have become rampant in Lafia, the state capital and hometown of the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.

Kidnapped ABU Students Regain Freedom After Family Members Paid Ransom.

After days in captivity, the nine abducted students of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria have been released.

The students, from the Department of French, were travelling to Lagos for a programme at the Nigerian French Language Village (NFLV) in Badagry.

On the 15th of November, it was reported that kidnappers had abducted the nine undergraduates of the French department along the Kaduna-Abuja highway while embarking on a road trip to Lagos for an academic programme. 

Julius Mutum, a brother to one of the victims has now tweeted that his sister and the others have been released.

The kidnappers requested for a million naira as ransom for each victim and after the families of the abducted each paid the ransom, the children were released. 

Ashiru Tijjani Zango, ABU head of security, also confirmed to newsmen Sunday morning that the students have reunited with their families.

Yes it’s true, I called the head of department and she confirmed to me that the students have been released. She said she will contact the family members before they make it public,” Mr. Zango said.

The head of security however did not confirm if any ransom was paid.
