OAU Sex For Marks Victim, Monica Osagie, Speaks Up.

Monica Osagie, the student at the centre of a sex-for-mark scandal rocking the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has denied shunning an invitation by the panel probing her audio tape of her conversation with disgraced Professor Richard Akindele, who demanded sex for marks.

She made the denial via proxy, and said she was awaiting an invitation by the panel, the Saturday Sun newspaper reported.

Her proxy, Abiola Akiyode-Afolabi, Founder, Women Advocates Research and Documentation Centre, a non-profit organisation, said that the university did not at any point invite Miss Osagie to face the panel.

She challenged the university to bring evidence that she was formally invited by any means to appear before the panel. “Before the matter went viral, the university was aware of it and they did not do anything.

If the case did not go viral, the university probably would have not done anything and it would have been swept under the carpet.

I think that we should focus more on whether the act of that professor amounts to sexual harassment, whether it was a breach of the school’s code of conduct, whether it was a breach of terms of contract for lecturers or whether he abused the relationship that should exist between lecturers and students.”

Afolabi stated that the university should be responsible and responsive in addressing issues of sexual harassment because Miss Osagie is ready to come out whenever the university extends a proper invitation to her, adding that it appears the school wants to protect its reputation at the expense of the young lady.

Akiyode-Afolabi further noted that even though Miss Osagie made the recording to serve as evidence against her lecturer, “she didn’t release the audio.

She got the evidence and it was given to one or two people when she was seeking for help. So definitely one of them released the audio, and she cannot be blamed for it.”

Grammy Nominated Swedish house DJ Avicii dies at 28.

Swedish EDM star Avicii was found dead in Muscat, Oman on Friday, a rep for the star told Fox News. He was 28.

“The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time,” Avicii’s publicist Diana Baron said. “No further statements will be given.”

Avicii was a pioneer of the contemporary Electronic Dance Movement and a rare DJ capable of worldwide arena tour. He won two MTV Music Awards, one Billboard Music Award and earned two Grammy nominations. His biggest hit was “Le7els.”

His death comes just days after he was nominated for a Billboard Music Award for top dance/electronic album for his EP “Avicii (01).”

He was nominated alongside his peers, who have taken EDM mainstream of late — The Chainsmokers, Calvin Harris and Kygo.

His hits include “Wake Me Up!” ”Levels” and “You Make Me.”

Arsenal Boss, Arsene Wenger To Leave Club At The End Of The Season.

Premier league’s current longest serving manager Arsene Wenger is to leave Arsenal at the end of the season, ending a near 22-year reign. The Frenchman departs a year before his latest contract is due to expire.

The Gunners are sixth in the league and set to miss out on a top-four spot for the second straight season, with their hopes of reaching the Champions League resting on winning the Europa League.

Wenger, 68, won three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups, including the Double in 1998 and 2002.

Part of a statement he released reads: “I am grateful for having had the privilege to serve the club for so many memorable years, I managed the club with full commitment and integrity.

“To all the Arsenal lovers, take care of the values of the club.”

Arsenal say a successor will be appointed “as soon as possible”.

Arsenal majority shareholder Stan Kroenke described Friday’s announcement as “one of the most difficult days we have ever had in all our years in sport“.

He added: “One of the main reasons we got involved with Arsenal was because of what Arsene has brought to the club on and off the pitch.

“His longevity and consistency over such a sustained period at the highest level of the game will never be matched.”

Sex-For-Marks Scandal: The Student Involved Has Refused To Step Forward – OAU Spokesperson.

The management of the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-Ife in Osun state, through its spokesperson, Abiodun Olanrewaju, has revealed that the female student involved in the sex-for-marks scandal has refused to come forward to testify before the panel set up to investigate the matter.

Olanrewaju made the revelation while speaking on a programme on Rave FM in Osogbo, on Wednesday. According to him, the victim is said to be apprehensive that the lecturer might lose his job if she comes forward.

His words: ”We have put machinery in motion to ascertain the veracity of the claims and identify the characters involved. As I am talking to you now, the management has taken a position which we will be working on now.

On the day that the audio was leaked, the vice chancellor and other principal officers of the university acted, including the legal director of the university. We set up a committee and the vice chancellor gave the committee one week to submit its report.

After that, we will know what to do. The incident happened last year. We have been calling her (the student’s) line, but she is not responding to her calls again.

We learnt that she confided in someone that she did not want the appointment of the man (lecturer) to be terminated because of her case. The panel has been set up and query has been given to the man; but we need somebody to come up that she was the one that was sexually harassed and the person is not in sight.”

In an audio convesation which has since gone viral, Professor Richard Akindele, who is also a pastor, could be heard telling a final year female student that he will have to sleep with her five times to get her mark upgraded.

On getting there, I saw Shopeju with seven other people, including a woman, all in black and red apparel. To my surprise, I saw Raliat Sanni in their midst. Her hands were tied, and she had a mask on her head. Shopeju was holding a knife I knew was not an ordinary one.

“The next that happened was that, they laid her on the ground like a ram & Shopeju slaughtered her. Each of the seven other people collected Raliat’s blood in the calabash they all held. Shopeju then severed her head and palms. I demanded from him what they would do with the remaining body. At that instance, he told me to go back to my room. That was how I left them and went back inside.

The following morning, I went into the church and noticed a portion with fresh sand, removed the surface sand and saw the corpse. I then covered it back. Three days after, on Sunday, police men came to arrest me”. Tobiloba stated.

Man Kills His Only Child To Please Second Wife.

A 47-year-old carpenter, Thompson Agena, has been arrested for killing his 6-year-old only child, Mercy, to win a woman’s love in Nasarawa State.

The mother of the child and late his wife, Cecilia, died in 2016. A year after,he met one Joy Orkuma, from Benue State. The pair fell in love, and soon after, she became pregnant.

However, Orkuma asked for the elimination of his only child. In the night of February 22, Agena did her bidding. He picked Mercy who was in deep slumber and dumped her inside a well.

Her body was discovered the next day when a farmer named, Joseph Kula, wanted to use the well.

Agena, since arrested by the police and charged to court, attributed his action to an overpowering love for his new girlfriend and the unbearable phobia of losing her and the pregnancy she had for him.

According to the suspect, his girlfriend argued that she wouldn’t want to raise a family with a witch around her. Agena alleged she had threatened to abort the pregnancy and quit their relationship if he failed to take action.

When Sunnews spoke over the phone to Joy Orkuma, currently on the run, she conveyed no sympathy about the situation. She claimed she only suggested her incompatibility with Mercy, whose behavior she described as unusual for a girl of her age.

“I told him that if I must marry him, Mercy will have to leave,” she asserted, “because she always appear in my dreams each time I pass a night in her father’s house.

So when I became pregnant for him, I told him that I can’t deliver a baby in the house for Mercy to kill.” According to her, the father’s murder of his daughter was the best thing to do.

While regretting his action, Agena said: “My wife will never forgive me in her grave. I have betrayed her trust and love for me. I regret buying into Joy’s devilish ideas.”

Four Cattle Thieves Arrested In Bauchi.

Troops of the Nigerian Army in Bauchi State have arrested four suspected cattle rustlers in Yayari village in the Ningi local government area of the state.

Punch correspondent learnt that the suspects, Musa Mohammed, Magaji Isyaka, Jao Musa, and Nura Bello, were nabbed by troops of 33 Artillery Brigade, which were participating in the ongoing military operation, Lafiya Dole.

It was gathered that the suspects, who were arrested on Tuesday, confessed to have stolen two cows and sold one to a runaway buyer, identified as Alhaji Ado.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Brig. Gen Texas Chukwu, who confirmed the arrest of the rustlers, said efforts were ongoing to arrest Alhaji Ado and other suspects involved in the cattle rustling business.

“We are presently making efforts to trail Alhaji Ado and other suspects and to put an end to this dirty business,” he added.

Seven Year Old Girl Raped By Forty Year Old Man, Loses Control Of Her Bladder.

A seven-year-old girl has completely lost control of her bladder, repeatedly urinating on herself after being sexually violated by a 40-year-old neighbour who calls her ‘my wife.’

The incident, which occurred at Ilupeju PalmGroove area, Lagos State, on Tuesday, has sent shockwaves down the spines of many, who saw the suspect, identified as Baba Michael as a responsible man.

The suspect, a commercial bus driver, is said to have a four-monthold son and lives with his uncle. The baby was the attraction for the victim. Whenever the girl goes to visit the baby, the suspect would take advantage of her.

Nobody would have known about the atrocity, if not that the girl repeatedly urinated on her body during examination.

The school management suspecting sexual violation, alerted Child Protection Network. When the girl urinated on herself during examination, one of her classmates alerted their class teacher. The victim’s mother, said that it was her daughter’s class teacher, who informed her about her daughter’s bladder control problem.

After revealing her ordeal, the victim was taken to Mirabel Centre, at Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), where it was confirmed she had been defiled. The Child Protection Network Coordinator, Comrade Toyin Okanlawon, said “We were able to arrest the suspect through the support of his uncle.

Manufacturers Of Fake Drinks Arrested In Lagos.

Lagos State police on Good Friday, at the Ojuwoye market in the Mushin area of the state, arrested Benjamin Ojukwu, for selling adulterated wines.

The suspect, Ojukwu, revealed that he actually learnt how to make wines and hot drinks in China.

“I was in China to learn how to mix and produce wines and hot drinks and when I got back to Nigeria in 2015, I started my own business in Nnewi, Anambra state.

I had to relocate to Lagos to start afresh when my factory got burnt,” Ojukwu confessed.

He also confessed to have been refilling branded bottles with his own products so that consumers can patronise him till he is able to promote his brand.

On how he plans to achieve his brand dream when adultrating other brands, the 55 year old suspect said he was going to achieve that after making enough profit from adultrating other brands.
