Despite FC Barcelona and Lionel Messi having reached an agreement and the clear intention of both parties to sign a new contract today, this has not been possible because of financial and structural obstacles (Spanish Liga regulations).
As a result of this situation, Messi will not be staying on at FC Barcelona any longer. The player who has stalled and waited for so long to sign a fitting contract with the club will now have to play his football elsewhere.
FC Barcelona have been terribly managed over the last few years, signing players for outrageous fees, only for those players to perform far below par for them.
Following the offseason, Barca have tried to offload a number of players while taking on free transfers. Yet the club has still not balanced its books with regards to its wage structure. Messi’s departure is now one price to be paid for such terrible management.
