COVID-19: FG Relaxes Ban On Interstate Travel.

The Federal Government has lifted the ban placed on interstate travels with effect from July 1, provided such journeys are made outside curfew hours.

The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Boss Mustapha, disclosed this at the daily briefing of the task force in Abuja on Monday.

Mustapha, who is also the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, also said the government has approved the safe resumption of domestic flights in the country.

He disclosed that the latest developments were contained in the task force’s fifth interim report which was submitted to the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), earlier in the day.

Among other things, Mustapha said, “I am pleased to inform you that Mr President has carefully considered the 5th Interim Report of the PTF and has accordingly approved that, with the exception of some modifications to be expatiated upon later, the Phase Two of the eased lockdown be extended by another four weeks with effect from Tuesday, June 30, 2020 through Midnight of Monday, 27 July, 2020.

“Specifically, however, the following measures shall either remain in place or come into effect:

“Permission of movement across state borders only outside curfew hours with effect from 1st July, 2020;

“Enforcement of laws around non-pharmaceutical interventions by States, in particular, the use of face masks in public places;

“Safe re-opening of schools to allow students in graduating classes resume in-person in preparation for examinations;

“Safe reopening of domestic aviation services as soon as practicable;

It is expected then that schools will reopen shortly as this phase of the lockdown eases.

How effective the laws governing citizens concerning COVID-19 are however yet to be seen or worse, ineffective as numbers of positive results keep soaring and state isolation centres keep running out of beds and spaces.

Alleged Paternity Fraud: Husband Stabs Wife’s Eyes, Murders Her, Then Commits Suicide.

A Nigerian man simply identified as Femi, stabbed his wife to death, & then committed suicide in their home in a suburban Lagos Estate on Sunday, the 21st of June.

According to residents of the estate, the couple moved into the estate three weeks ago with their two young children. Not much was known about the couple but just a day before the murder-suicide, they were spotted jogging together the previous night.

However, on Sunday, the man who is said to have always questioned his wife’s fidelity & the paternity of their second child, stabbed his wife to death, then took his own life.

A neighbour who spoke on condition of anonymity explained what transpired that dark Sunday. Apparently, neighbours close to the couple’s apartment heard loud music coming from their home that afternoon, this lasted for many hours. The neighbors then complained at the estate office & insisted the estate officials go there to caution the couple.

The estate authorities went to the couple’s compound to appeal to them to turn down the volume of the music coming from their apartment. They however met with the wife’s sister who was downstairs with the couple’s children. The sister immediately went upstairs so she can inform her sister and the husband about the complaint laid by the estate authorities. She knocked several times but got no response.

After waiting for so long, the sister & the estate officials decided to pull the door down only to meet a horrific sight.

Apparently, the man had killed his wife. It is believed it was pre-meditated because when they got into the room, they saw different kinds of knives there. The woman’s legs and hands were bound and her mouth shut with a cellotape. He had pulled her braids with a plier, stabbed both her eyes, stabbed her multiple times with different knives.

After stabbing his wife to death, the man committed suicide by drinking ‘sniper’.

Spokesperson of the state police command, Bala Elkana who confirmed the incident said: “It is true. Homicide detectives have sealed up the place. They have commenced investigation.”.

Aaron Glee Confesses To Murders Of Toyin Salau and Victoria Sims.

Toyin Salau, at an interview during the Black Lives Matter protests

Aaron Glee Jr. has confessed several times that he kidnapped & killed both Oluwatoyin Salau, a student & protester, and Victoria Sims, a volunteer and retired state worker, in grisly crimes that have horrified the community.

According to newly released court documents, Glee waived his right to remain silent and gave his account of events to officers with the Tallahassee Police Department & the Orlando Police Department.

They include shocking new details, including that Glee kept Salau a prisoner in his run-down home on Monday Road for several days, raping her and eventually deciding to kill her to avoid getting caught.

The documents also reveal that Salau, 19, & Sims, 75, apparently met one another in the last days of their lives, after Glee arranged for Sims to pick both him & Salau up at a bus stop.

Salau went missing June 6, followed by Sims on June 11. On June 13, numerous TPD officers descended on his home after tracing Sims’ cellphone to the address. They found Sims’ body under a bloody sheet in a bedroom and Salau’s body under a pile of leaves in the woods behind the house.

By that time, Glee had already bought a one-way ticket to West Palm Beach, where he has family members. Orlando police, working off information from TPD, intercepted him at a Greyhound bus station and took him into custody.

Victoria Sims, a social worker, was also murdered by Aaron Glee Jr.

He complained of breathing problems & was taken to an Orlando hospital, where he openly chatted about the two murders, according to the arrest report.

“While at the hospital, Glee had made voluntary admissions to officers guarding him that he had murdered two women in Tallahassee,” the report says “He would also place a telephone call to his mother and make these same admissions.”

Later that day, TPD officers arrived in Orlando to interview him.

“Glee would admit in detail that on different dates, he had kidnapped & murdered both (Salau) and Sims,” the report says.

Glee told investigators he struck up a conversation with Salau June 6 at a bus stop on Apalachee Parkway. She mentioned she had been sexually assaulted — something she revealed that same day in a series of tweets.

He offered to take her to his house to bathe and sleep. He said he called Sims, who picked them both up in her white Toyota sedan.

Video footage captured by StarMetro buses show that Salau left a Leon County branch library on South Adams Street at 5:51 p.m. and arrived at the bus stop on Apalachee Parkway at 6:07 p.m.

Toyin Salau, at the Black Lives Matter protest, following the murder of George Floyd a while ago.

Glee told investigators that after arriving at his house, Salau took a shower. He tried to have sex with her but she said no and tried to fight him off.

“He stated that she physically resisted him, and that she bit him upon his right forearm during the struggle,” the report says.

But Glee overpowered her.

“He was asked if he would characterize his actions as rape,” the report says. “Glee responded in the affirmative.”

Glee said he kept Salau tied up and imprisoned in his home for three to five days, but wasn’t sure how long exactly because “he was heavily under the influence of alcohol.”

However, he said he released her at times to eat & bathe. He admitted to “sexually assaulting her numerous times during those three to five days.” Glee, who has a prison record dating back decades, worried that if he were to let her go, he’d land behind bars again.

“Glee stated that he was aware that he would be arrested and likely sentenced to prison if he allowed (Salau) to leave the residence,” the arrest report says. “Glee indicated that he determined that his only course of action was to end her life.”

He bound her with rope in a manner he thought would cause her to die & left her in a bedroom.

“Glee explained how over the course of several hours he would re-enter the bedroom mutiple times to see if (Salau) was still alive,” the report says. “Ultimately, he entered into the bedroom & determined (she) had died.”

Police reports say Sims also was bound. Investigators believe Glee ransacked her apartment on Blair Stone Road, stole her car & kidnapped her. Her car was found stuck in mud outside his house.

Glee was arrested in Orlando but brought to Tallahassee, where he’s facing two counts each of murder & kidnapping & one count of sexual assault. He had his first court appearance on the new charges Saturday via video conference.

Chief Circuit Judge Jonathan Sjostrom ordered Glee held without bail at the request of Assistant State Attorney Callaway Scott, who called him a “danger to society.”

Glee, wearing an orange & white jumpsuit, did not speak during the brief hearing. His Miami attorney, Mauricio Padilla, advised him not to discuss the case with anyone.

Sjostrom agreed with Scott, noting that Glee was a flight risk given his unsuccessful attempt to escape on a bus.

“There are no conditions that can adequately protect the public, no conditions that could ensure Mr. Glee’s future appearance,” Sjostrom said. “The probable cause itself demonstrates the possibility of significant flight.”
